Kickstart placements in schools

We have six-month paid placements available in mainstream and special educational needs schools, available now until the end of March 2022.

The placements are aimed at 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit, providing a kickstart into employment. No previous experience of working in a school is necessary, but a passion for making a difference to children’s lives is a must!

What you’ll be doing

We have a variety of placements available across Kent.

Our teaching assistant placements involve mainly working in the classroom, supporting the teacher with children and young people. If you work in a special educational needs school, you’ll be working with children and young people who face challenges with learning, their health or with behaviour.

We also have placements in business administration and caretaking in schools.

As part of the scheme there will also be the chance to spend time in more than one school and you could gain experience in other areas of school too.

Along the way, you’ll learn valuable skills that will make you more employable, plus you’ll be working in an environment where job vacancies are available. If you are successful, your placement could lead to an apprenticeship where you could gain a formal qualification or a permanent job.

Training

You'll take part in a 26 week training programme while you do the placement, where you’ll get:

  • to learn specific skills and knowledge for the role you’ll be doing
  • employment skills such as communication, time management and teamwork
  • other support to help you with your career.

Salary

The role is for 25 hours per week and pay will be at National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage depending on how old you are. You will be employed and paid by us on a 6 month fixed term contract. You may continue to receive Universal Credit once you start work. Find out more about how your earnings affect your payments on GOV.UK.
