Chief of Staff

Big County. Big Opportunity. Drive the change that matters.

A few words from David Cockburn, Chief Executive

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to serve our community and shape our council for the future.

As we have come through the pandemic we have developed a strategy that is based on:

  • Levelling up Kent - making Kent a successful place and narrowing the gaps in outcomes.
  • Infrastructure for communities - ensuring that all communities have the right infrastructure around them for a good quality of life.
  • Environmental step change – working towards our ambitious Net Zero targets, while managing climate impacts that the county is already experiencing.
  • New models of care and support – seizing the important opportunities to manage the demand and resource challenges facing our people-based services and provide better care and support for the people of Kent.

Having recently moved to a new management model, this newly-created role will work alongside the senior management team and will be pivotal to the delivery of these strategic objectives and ensuring that we work effectively with our partners to identify and deliver the best, most creative solutions to the challenges we face.

You will be a catalyst for me and the council’s senior team, significantly enhancing our ability to influence, set the agenda, transform services, and deliver improved outcomes.

David Cockburn, Chief Executive

As a key member of our senior team, you will be integral in providing clear strategic focus and an engaging narrative that enables staff and partners to visualise the goals we are working towards; you will also provide the highest levels of challenge and support to colleagues to ensure that our objectives are realised.

You will be a catalyst for me and the council’s senior team, significantly enhancing our ability to influence, set the agenda, transform services, and deliver improved outcomes.

We are keen to work with an exceptional individual who has the energy, ideas and ambition to make a sustained difference to the people of Kent: someone who shares our commitment to improving services and outcomes for residents and businesses.

Kent is a very large canvas: there is both a real opportunity to make a tangible difference, as well as scope for you to make the role what you want it to be – there is genuinely no better place to deliver great services and enjoy yourself whilst developing your career.
